3D X-ray at the dentist with digital volume tomogram (DVT)
We use digital volume tomography in our dental practice in Erbendorf (district of Tirschenreuth) before inserting implants into the jawbone ("implant insertions") or other oral surgical procedures. The so-called 3D X-ray expands our possibilities in diagnostics and is helpful when the conventional X-ray does not provide the necessary information.
It allows a more precise representation of the bony structures and thus enables our dentists to plan the treatment more precisely.

Three-dimensional images for implants and other surgical procedures
In conventional x-rays, only the bone height is visible, but never the often much more important bone width.
However, to keep an implant stable and free of inflammation for a long time, it is important to anchor it in the bone all around.
3D x-rays can help the dentist to work very precisely here. Likewise, the lower jaw nerve is often not visible on conventional x-rays. This can also be identified with a DVT.
If necessary, we can forward the X-ray data in our dental practice to colleagues who are also treating patients or transfer the data on CD for our patients. Digital X-rays are also our active contribution to environmental protection. Because we do not need developing chemicals, fixers or X-ray films.
Serious nerve damage and associated numbness of the chin and lower lip can thus be avoided during implantations and the extraction of wisdom teeth. In endodontics, too, 3D x-rays are a helpful instrument and are used, among other things, to predict the outcome of treatment.
Less radiation and active environmental protection through digital X-ray technology
In our practice in Erbendorf, not far from Weiden in der Oberpfalz, Tirschenreuth, Grafenwoerth and Marktredwitz, we exclusively use digital X-ray equipment – by conviction! Because they make it possible to see more with less radiation. With digital x-rays the radiation exposure is significantly lower. Our dentists can enlarge the digital X-ray images on the screen and adjust contrast and brightness optimally.

What is digital volume tomography?
A digital volume tomography is a three-dimensional X-ray image of the jawbone – similar to a CT (computer tomography). Many individual slice images of the jaw are made, which are then combined to form a complete 3D image on the screen.
Can implants be planned using DVT?
Only in this way the bone can be assessed in all its dimensions – height, width and depth. DVT enables planning reliability to avoid injuries to important structures such as the maxillary sinus and nerves. Likewise, a reliable statement can be made about the costs incurred for dental implants.
